Directly under the supervision of the State Ministry of Education, Communication University of China (CUC) is a "First-class Discipline Construction University", one of China’s major universities of “Project 211”, key construction university of "985 advantage discipline innovation platform". Founded in 1954, the school was renamed as Communication University of China from Beijing Broadcasting Institute in August 2004.


CUC is located on the bank of the ancient canal in Beijing, between the functional core area and the sub center of the capital, with convenient transportation and advantageous location. The beautiful campus occupies 463,700 square meters of land and a total of 638,800 square meters of buildings.


CUC upholds its ideology of offering courses that are centered on scientific based learning by emphasizing the application of a course and relevance to the particular discipline. As a result, an inter-relating and inter-influencing discipline system that covers journalism and communication, film & television arts, information science & technology, literature, engineering, management, economics, and law and science has been formed. 


There are currently 21 colleges directly under the university. They are School of Journalism, Television School, Institute of Communication Studies, School of Film and Cinematic Arts, Broadcasting and Anchoring School, School of Animation and Digital Arts, School of Music and Recording Arts, Institute of Art, School of Information and Communication Engineering, School of Computer Science and Cybersecurity, School of Data Science and Intelligent Media, School of Literature, School of International Studies, Sports Department, School of Economics and Management, Advertising School, School of Cultural Industries Management, School of Government and Public Affairs, School of Marxism, Hainan International College, School of Continuing Education(High Vocational and Technical College), Faculty of International Media, Institute for a Community with Shared Future. At present, there are more than 16000 full-time students, including nearly 11000 full-time undergraduate students, and more than 5300 doctoral and master's students.


CUC has established cooperative partnership with over 200 universities, research institutes, and media institutions in various countries and regions. The International League of Media Higher Education launched by the university has attracted 67 media universities from 28 countries and regions. Over 1000 international students from more than 100 countries and regions study at CUC annually.

  • The university does not offer the reservation service of on-campus accommodation. Since the number of rooms in dormitory is limited, the university can not guarantee on-campus accommodation for every international student either. From the informed date of starting check-in every semester, students can come to the reception of the dormitory and check in with the admission documents. On-campus accommodation wont be available once the dormitory is full.

  • For international students who stay less than one month, the rates will be different from the above prices.

  • International students can also live off campus, please make sure the lease procedures are complete and legal.

VI. Application Requirements  & Procedures

1. Application requirements

Student Type

Requirements

Undergraduate

Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with valid passport for 4 years or above verification of nationality, and with over 2 years records of living outside of China (9 months in a year living abroad can be considered as 1 year which is subject to the entry & exit stamps) in recent 4 years (before April 30th of every academic year), between 18 and 35 years of age, with high school diploma or higher academic degree certificate.

Master

Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with valid passport , have academic credentials that equate with bachelor’s degree in China, under 40 and provide academic credentials paper, at least two recommendation letters issued by associate professors or higher.

Doctor

Applicants should have academic credentials that equate with master’s degree in China, under 45 and provide academic credentials paper, at least two recommendation letters issued by associate professors or higher.

Language Student

Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with valid passport, between 18-45 years of age.


2. Time for application

(1) Degree program application deadline: May 9, 2022;

(2) Intensive Chinese language program (Fall semester) application deadline:: June 30, 2022.

3. Online application

Procedures:

(1)Log in the website cuc.17gz.orgto register, and upload application materials according to the relevant requirements.

(2)Pay application fee online (nonrefundable).

(3)Wait for the qualification examination and admission.

Please note:

(1)Every degree program applicant can register for two majors at most.

(2)Please double-check your application information before submission. Once the information is submitted, it cannot be changed.

(3)Please keep a record of your application username and password for future check and enroll results query. No inquiry service is available at the International Students Division.


4.Required Application Materials

(1)  “Warranty Letter” ( Please download the“Warranty Letter” from the online registration system, the“Warranty Letter” shall be signed or sealed by the warrantor.)

(2) Scanned copy of passport information page; Scanned copy of visa or residential permit for students studying in China.

(3)Electronic photo with white background (minimum size: 640dpi*480dpi)


Undergraduate program applicants need to attach:

(4)Scanned copies of diploma and transcript of highest education in Chinese or English. Notarized translated version is required if the original document is not in Chinese or English. (Original documents need to be offered for check on registration day)

(5)One Recommendation Letter with school seal or signature of the referee.

(6)HSK Certificate and scanned copy of original transcript.

Graduate program applicants need to attach:

(5)Two recommendation letters of associate professors or higher. (scanned copies)

(6)Personal Statement: The content shall include the applicant’s education and professional experience, academic achievements, research plan and the goal of development after graduation (written in the teaching language of the target program).

(7)Research Plan: No less than 2000 characters for applicants of Masters program, no less than 3000 characters for applicants of PhD program, written in the teaching language of the target program.

(8)Copy of published academic papers, awards and other research achievements.

(9)HSK level-6 Certificate and an original copy of transcript (Chinese Medium program applicable).

  For English Medium programs, TOFEL or IELTS report is required if the applicant’s mother language is not English and their previous study & working experiences cannot prove their English level.

(10) In addition, for broadcasting-related majors applicants, please provide video material. The requirements are as follows:

Contents (9 minutes in total)

 ①News broadcasting (3 minutes maximum, open-ended subjects)

 ②Program host (3 minutes maximum, open-ended subjects)

 ③Literature reciting (3 minutes maximum, open-ended subjects)

 ①MP4 only.

 ②Please copy the document on USB flash disk and submit it in an envelope indicating the candidate's application number, name and major.

(11) Other materials: Award certificates in sports, arts, etc. All kinds of materials showing applicants talents are welcomed.

1.For those who were born overseas withforeign nationalities, if both parents or one of them is a Chinese citizen settled abroad, please offer the following documents as required in provisions of “the Ministry of Education Foreign Students Education [2020] No. 12:

(1)Birth Certificate;

(2)Copy of Passport’s entry and exit signature/stamp pages for the last four years (original document for reference);

(3)Proof of overseas education experience for the last four years (from April 30, 2018 to April 30, 2022)

2.For those who have changed their nationalities from Chinese into others, please offer the following documents:

5.Interview of Art Majors and Major of Chinese Language & Literature (Undergraduate)


Applicants should submit video materials and other works as required by the program before May 9, 2022. Video materials should include self introduction, talent show and brief introduction to the works attached, etc.Please copy the materials on USB flash disk and mail it in an envelope indicating the candidate's application number, name and major to the International Students Division, or upload the video materials on https://pan.baidu.com/disk/home?#/all?path=%2F&vmode=listand send the download link to cuclxs@126.com ( Title of email: Chinese name+application number+target program+video material download link. Do not set download expiry date. Applicants applying for two majors need to submit two sets of materials separately. 6.Admission Procedures

For applicants of Arts Majors, the University will decide upon the admission based onapplication materials, interview results, HSK grades, and the admission quota of each major

Undergraduate and graduate applicants can log on the online application system and check the admission result & scholarship information after the following dates:

IX.Registration

(1)Registration

 ①International students must register at the time specified in the “Letter of Admission” with the original “Letter of Admission” and other required materials. Early registration is not accepted. Students who cannot register on time due to special reasons must submit formal paper application (less than 2 weeks) to International Students Division; otherwise he/she will be regarded as giving up student status automatically (Except for force majeure)

 ②Self-supporting students should pay 1-year tuition fee on the registration day

 ③Provide 6 2-inch white background photos on registration day

 ④Pay the insurance fee on registration day


(2) Visa:

 ①International students should hold an ordinary passport with student visa ("X" visa) to come to China; otherwise he/she may not be able to register at Communication University of China. If you are already in China with “Residence Permit”, please come to the office to pay the tuition fee and extend your visa 1 month before the expiring date. If you hold a "Residence Permit" issued by other provinces and cities of China outside Beijing, please extend your residence permit within 10 days after enrollment.

 ②Students with "X1" visas should register at the International Students Division within 7 daysafter entering China, and apply for “Residence Permit” at the police station within 30 days of entering. Overdue will be punished by the police station.For serious violation, the university will cancel your student status.

 ③International studentsentering China with “X1” visas should provide all the original medical examination results, including: the “Physical Examination Record for Foreigner”, blood lab reports for AIDS and Syphilis, X-ray report. The report will be valid in 6 months, overdue, you should do it again.
