On July 1, 2021, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. There were four leading reciters in the front of the dedication array as representatives. In fact, there were 6 more preparatory reciters standing by, one of whom also served as an announcer of the Beijing Medals Plaza (BMP) team in 2022 Winter Olympics. This is Shen Qian, a senior student majoring in Broadcasting & Hosting in Communication University of China (CUC).

Entering Broadcasting and Anchoring School with the highest score in Zhejiang Province

Born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, Shen Qian had limited time to study after the art examination of CUC. But still she scored 620  in the National College Entrance Examination, 32 points beyond the threshold score of the first-tier university. Her advice of study is “When doing something, pay whole attention to it,” and “set reasonable goals and achieve your best in  limited time.”

In the University, as a commissary in charge of studies, Shen is strict with herself. With the sincere oath of "Diligently training language skills and vividly spreading the strong voice of the times", Shen made a wish which is to shine with her own light.

"Read more books with words and even more books without words." Shen takes every professional course, news interview and stage hosting as her valuable experience. From "The Elegant Star" talent show to chorus competition, from Hanfu (a traditional Chinese costume) Spring Festival Gala to Beijing College Student Film Festival, she did improve her professional skills and  confidence.

"Tell Chinese story and let Chinese voice be heard." Since college, Shen has measured the land with her feet and recorded her life with passion. She interviewed Zhou Xiufang, a retired teacher who went to the distressed areas to support teaching, Wu Wei, a painter who drew pictures of medical personnel’s eyes during the epidemic, Chen Xiaoping, a blind writer who reads and writes by his ears, and Wang Shiguang, a composer who created The Song of the Yangtze River. These experiences improved both her study and skills, making her further realize the value of her career.

Honored to become a member of the Communist Party of China

In 2018, Shen applied for the party membership and became an activist. On November 11, 2021, she officially became a CPC member. At the same time, she was also selected to enter the Youth Marxism College (YMC) of CUC. In YMC, she read Karl Marx: A Biography and many other books. She went to the crop base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to practice, and worked with students from different departments to play Meet Marx Again, which is Shen Qian's graduation play. For students of YMC, it was also their first attempt at presenting what they have learned about Marx in the form of drama.

From one of the ten reciters of the 100th Anniversary Ceremony of CPC in 2021 to Chinese announcer of 2022 Winter Olympics

From the 100th Anniversary Ceremony to the Winter Olympic Games, Shen is much honored and proud to contribute her strength to her motherland and make the voice of Chinese youth heard on the international stage. She felt that "broadcasting in front of the microphone is not only a kind of experience, but also responsibility."

In June 2021, she became one of the 10 reciters in the final training stage of the ceremony. As a member of the leading recitation team, Shen participated in the three-month training program and achieved self-growth. The recitation requires great passion and power, which used to be a big challenge for her. However, after training, she felt she could better express her feelings and smoothly recite with confidence.

One year later, Shen devoted herself to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, this world-class event. During the Winter Olympics, she served as the Chinese announcer of BMP. During Paralympic Winter Games, she served as the Chinese announcer of Beijing (Yanqing) Medals Plaza. As for the experience of broadcasting in the Winter Olympics, she said that for Chinese broadcasters, one of the challenges is reading the name of athletes from different countries. "We tried to grasp the accurate pronunciation by watching the award ceremonies and competition videos for many times, or by asking someone from the corresponding country." At the end of each broadcast, she would carefully review the video to make a summary, and strive for a better performance next time. In terms of language expression, she stressed the importance of fitting the atmosphere of the award ceremony and igniting the enthusiasm of the audience with emotions and fruitful changes of voices, so that the audience could be truly touched.

Getting the postgraduate recommendation with first place in evaluation for three years

Shen has won national scholarships for three consecutive years and ranks first in the student’s evaluation. In September 2021, she has obtained the postgraduate recommendation of the master's program of International Journalism & Communication of CUC.

Shen's future career plan is to become a journalist-anchorperson. She modestly said that she was still too young with little experience. She hopes that she can be more down-to-earth and diligent, to explore in the field she loves and stick to her goal. Just as she expected for the future in her graduation video, "Accumulate and move towards the light!"
