CUC co-founded Confucius Institute held activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day

In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day of the People’s Republic of China, the Confucius Institute of University of La Frontera (UFRO) - co-founded by Communication University of China (CUC) - has recently organized a variety of activities.

On September 29 - the Confucius Institute Day, CUC Confucius Institute Management Office, International Office, and the Confucius Institute jointly planned and recorded an online Mid-Autumn Festival cultural event "Mid-Autumn Festival Poetry and Opera Appreciation" in video form. It was launched on social media in Chile, showing the charm of Chinese culture by focusing on Mid-Autumn stories and poetry. The event has received wide attention from students of the Confucius Institute and people interested in Chinese culture.

Professor Li Huailiang makes a speech


Professor Li Huailiang, Dean of the Institute for a Community with Shared Future and the head of CUC Confucius Institute Management Office, said in his speech that the Mid-Autumn Festival - which symbolizes reunion - is an important traditional festival in China. The joint festival celebration between CUC and UFRO reflected the deep friendship between the Chinese and Chilean people, while it also showed that both sides had achieved fruitful results. Prof. Li hoped  that both sides could keep in close contact to contribute to a stable, prosperous, and beautiful world togethereven more so in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liu Fenghai, deputy director of the International Office of CUC and Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, introduced the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Sun Yuhong, lecturer of CUC Confucius Institute Management Office, demonstrated the Tang poem "A Tranquil Night" while Nicol Rios Medina, actor from the Theatre of Araucania, recited the poem in Spanish. The rich and diverse sessions not only added a strong humanistic atmosphere to the festival event but also let the Chilean people understand our traditional Chinese festival more comprehensively.

Arts and cultural performances of the event


The event was strongly supported by CUC Broadcasting and Anchoring School and the Primary School Affiliated to CUC. Two undergraduate students from Broadcasting and Anchoring School- Xu Siming and Jin Chengyu - recited the poem "A Prelude to Water Melody" in both Chinese and English. Xu Siming then sang a song version of the poem after the recitation. Zhang Shuwen, 6th-grade student from the Primary School Affiliated to CUC performed the pipa solo "A Moonlit Night on the Spring River" whereas Shi Jiahao, postgraduate student of National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts who is about to teach at the Confucius Institute in the UK, performed and told the story Peking Opera "Hongniang". All these performances well demonstrated the charm of traditional Chinese arts. The Chinese teachers and volunteers who are about to serve at the Confucius Institute also introduced themselves and expressed their best wishes at the end of the event.

Wishes from the UFRO Confucius Institute


On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, UFRO Confucius Institute sent their best wishes of prosperity and happiness in Chile's local dailies El Austral. Paola Olave Muller, director of UFRO Confucius Institute, also recorded a congratulatory video to express her hope that both sides could further strengthen language and cultural exchange, while UFRO Confucius Institute would open the door for cooperation between China and Chile.

Videos of the above activities had been published on YouTube, Facebook, and local media platforms. In the future, Confucius Institute will continue to promote the cultural exchange between China and Chile.
