Two students of Television School of Communication University of China (CUC) performed well in the finals of the 26th China Daily "21st Century Cup" National College English Speaking Competition and the 3rd The Belt and Road Youth English Speaking Competition, which were held from October 2 to 6 in the Business & Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
Under the guidance of Professor Wu Minsu, Deputy Director of Faculty of Journalism and Communication, CUC, two students from Television School won the prizes. Zhang Xiaoyu, a doctoral student majoring in Radio and Television Journalism, won the first prize of The Belt and Road Youth English Speaking Competition, and Liu Peilin, an undergraduate majoring in International Journalism and Communication, won the runner-up and the special award "China cares" in the China Daily "21st Century Cup" National College English Speaking Competition.

After eight months of preparation, the two students finally entered the national finals through rounds of screening from regional competitions, semi-finals to finals. The contestants are from nationwide universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and University of International Business and Economics. The jury is composed of national senior foreign language professors, experts in international communication and a number of foreign experts.
During the five-day finals, the two students have won the unanimous recognition of the jury. The theme of Zhang Xiaoyu's speech was "Healing the World". Combined with her overseas study experience, she illustrated the extraordinary power of "cultural understanding and perception" in vivid language. The theme of Liu Peilin's speech was "The Power of Ideals". He presented the growing process of his ideal of "telling Chinese stories well". In the impromptu speech session, the two students discussed "global climate change" and "the relationship between individual and country" respectively.
Since 2014, the students of Television School of CUC have won awards consecutively in national College English speech competitions, thanks to the CUC’s compound teaching mode. In the new era, the Television School will continue to cultivate more international communication talents with broad knowledge and professional skills, to enable more CUC students to tell the Chinese stories in the world stage.
