“Hujambo, Afrika! (Hello, Africa!)”, a short video made by five 2019 Kiswahili majors from School of International Studies of Communication University of China (CUC), won the second prize on the Award Ceremony of the 2021 China-Africa Video and Photo Competition on Thursday in Beijing.

Themed “Friendship in Focus, Together for Future”, the competition aims to review and prospect the development of China-Africa friendship and promote bilateral people-to-people exchanges. The competition attracted wide interest from Chinese and African video and photo lovers, receiving over 2,500 entries. After preliminary evaluation, 45 entries from China and Africa were shortlisted for online voting and final review. In line with the concept of “People-to-people Ties”, Hujambo, Afrika! was highly recognized by audiences and experts and thus won the second prize.

The China-Africa Video and Photo Competition is jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and China International Publishing Group (CIPG).
As the member of the first batch of young teaching talents in CUC, Ao Manyun from the School of International Studies and Zhang Jinyu from the School of Theater, Film and Television reformed and innovated the teaching method of undergraduate practical courses during the summer semester. Combining language advantages in international communication and their strength of Double First-Class disciplines, they cooperate across schools and subjects, explore the mechanism of integrated and innovative professional development, as well as carry out joint training. Winning this award is also a strong demonstration of the faculty building and talent training method innovation.

The School of International Studies will continue to support CUC in the construction of Double First-Class and cultivate more creators telling Chinese stories well, through which the world can better perceive and understand China.
