As the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics mascot Bing Dwen Dwen becomes everyone’s favorite, Han Zhebin, a volunteer of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics paints the chubby panda on masks.
I hope that in this way, journalists from all over the world can feel the enthusiasm and friendship of our volunteers. In a media workshop of the National Biathlon Center, Han’s hand-painted Bing Dwen Dwen masks were welcomed by journalists.
Han Zhebing is a student volunteer from Yanshan University. Soon after she began her volunteer service at the National Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou, North China’s Hebei province in Jan., an idea came to her. “There are so many foreign journalists looking at the information board every day. Can we add some Chinese elements to it?”
Utilizing the painting knowledge she learnt in college, she drew some Chinese characteristic patterns such as lanterns, tigers, etc. on the information board. In this way, she could better introduce Chinese New Year and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics to foreign journalists.
Since the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 4, the chubby panda Bing Dwen Dwen has become all the rage and the mascot-themed items soon went out of stock. So Han started to draw Bing Dwen Dwen on the masks by herself with gel pens.
“Cross-country skiing and shooting take place here at the National Biathlon Center. So I think a panda holding an air gun is more meaningful.” said Han.
“A couple of journalists took videos and picturesof me when I was drawing. I got quite nervous and my hands sweated.” Faced with camera lens, the outgoing girl also felt a little bit pressure.
When Han Zhebin gave the Bing Dwen Dwen masks to reporters from all over the world, everyone liked them very much.
“During the games, I help foreign reporters as a photography assistant. And when I am off duty, I will draw more Bing DwenDwen patterns to make more people fall in love with our Chinese culture!” Han said.(Si Huaning, Photography Operation Supervisor of the National Biathlon Center)
