Volunteer Li Zhuoying from Hong Kong tells a child about the Winter Olympics.
As the final countdown to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games begins, tens of thousands of volunteers in blue get active at 758 volunteer service stations in Beijing. At the Urban Volunteer Service Station in Sanlitun, a famous international community in Beijing, a group of volunteers from Hong Kong have been on duty since early January. They are made up of young Hong Kong entrepreneurs and college students in Beijing, each volunteering more than four hours a day on average. These young people, who grew up in the subtropical area, have to work outdoors in Beijing every day in winter to publicize the knowledge and events about the Winter Olympics, distribute brochures, hand out warmth-preserving and epidemic prevention products, give directions to passers-by, interact with international tourists, and even provide emergency services. Despite the cold weather, their hearts are hot.
Li Zhuoying, a Hong Kong student from Communication University of China, says that she attended the ski activity and welcome party held by Hong Kong Professionals (Beijing) Association and the Youth Federation of Chaoyang District in December last year, and learned that the Urban Volunteer Service Station of the Winter Olympics in Sanlitun is Hong Kong Youth theme station. "As a Hong Kong youth in Beijing, it is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the grand event. So I immediately have the idea to sign up."
Li became one of the first volunteers on the day of the Station's launching ceremony. She, along with several other Hong Kong volunteers and a world figure skater champion Tong Jian, shouted out the slogan "Double Olympics in Chaoyang District, heading together for a shared future and handed out winter Olympic brochures to residents. "It was the first time for her to work with a world champion of figure skating and participate in the volunteer service of a large-scale sports event. She is very proud of China for holding such a grand event.
Li grew up in Hong Kong and didn't see snow until she came to study in Beijing. In order to serve the Winter Olympics better, she not only consulted a lot of information on Winter Olympic events, competitions, and other materials in advance, but also went to experience skiing. Participating in the winter Olympic volunteer service brougt her much fun of winter sports. The Winter Olympics is a celebration for the whole world, which is also my ice and snow trip. she said.
During the Spring Festival and winter vacation, in order to do volunteer work, she gave up the chance to return to Hong Kong and reunite with her family. She says that Although I have a little regret in my heart, I feel happy and warm to cooperate with more friends in the Olympic Games. Apart from her regular volunteer work, she is also interested in making cultural exchanges between Beijing and Hong Kong, so as to bring Hong Kong and mainland youth closer.
We have always encouraged young people in our Association to attend such an activity. It is not only a process of their own growth and progress, but also a great opportunity for them to adapt themselves to life on the mainland, understand our country comprehensively, and integrate into the development of our country. Only through personal practice and experience can the Hong Kong youth enhance their sense of national identity and national pride most quickly, says Feng Guoyou, Chairman of the Hong Kong Professionals (Beijing) Association.
