Recently two entries of students from School of Animation and Digital Arts, Communication University of China(CUC) were shortlisted in the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, which are Dayfly (Fu You Ri Ji) and CHOSE. Both of them together made it into the Young Animation Category. For two consecutive years, entries of students from CUC have been selected for the competition of this top international event.

Dayfly is a graduation project, which was completed by Yi Baoxingchen, Zhang Kerui and Zhang Youjie, guided by Prof. Ai Shengying from School of Animation and Digital Arts. Comparing mayflies with human beings, this film presents the lifetime of humans by telling the whole life of mayflies, which only lasts for one day. It has previously won several awards, such as Best Animated Film for 2020 HiShorts Film Festival , Best Director Award for2020 Shenzhen Youth Video Festival, Best Editing Award for 2020 Tencent News College Short Video Competition . Furthermore, it was selected for many renowned international competitions like Kaboom Animation Festival 2021.

Guided by two teachers, Suo Xiaoling and Ai Shengying, Guo Chuchu, Fei Xiaobo, Hu Ruoling, Ruan Yishu and Sui Jiaxin jointly created a short film called “CHOSE”. It ironically and humorously tells the story of a boy who had to defer to his parents who always made life decisions for him. However, he ended up being the same like his parents. This film was not only given the award of Oustanding Works of the Year at 2020 Short Video Conference, but also shortlisted for several international competitions including the 2021 Tokyo Anime Award Festival and the 2021 Canterbury Anifest.

Founded in 1982, Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film(ITFS) ranks among the world’s most important animated film events.ITFS, which also occupies a significant position among the same kind of festivals in Europe, is an Oscar-qualifying one.
