The inauguration ceremony of the GuoZhong Building was held last Friday in its Lecture Hall. The building is named “GuoZhong” as it’s the abbreviation of “State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication” in Chinese. Communication University of China (CUC) has been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as part of a central deployment to build the State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication — China’s first state key laboratory in the field of communication in a university.

With the 3D virtual background full of high-tech elements and dynamic, representatives came to the stage and pushed the button together, the State Key Laboratory was formally in running order. The strategic cooperation signing ceremony followed, leading into 6 strategic cooperation agreements signed by CUC, the State Key Laboratory with other prominent laboratories and some of the most influential media companies in China, including People’s Daily, Publicity Department, China Telecom and other four equally principal front runners in the industry.

Heads from government departments, renowned newspapers and television channels, prestigious scholars of the media faculty from top-level universities in the country, leaders of CUC, representatives of teachers, students and retired faculty members were present at the ceremony.
Among them, many expressed their praise for this significant step that CUC has taken while also expressing their expectations.
“To bring exploration and innovation in media communication to a new level, CUC should keep digging in the fields concerned by the country and people, make inspiring and original breakthroughs, intensify interdisciplinary collaboration with teams from other universities, cultivate students with a service orientation.” said Lei Chaozi, director-general of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Education.
In further expectations for the State Key Laboratory, Yang Jie, director of the Media Convergence Development of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, gave his encouragement for the laboratory to bring fundamental studies on media convergence into operation, finding new patterns and new areas for technology application so as to sprout new leaves of conscientious and influential broadcasting media in the industry.

Finally,President LiaoXiangzhong delivered his speech, expressing his determination to steadily accelerate the construction of the State Key Laboratory, making it an important force to the further transformation of CUC into a more dynamic, intelligent and international university. He also mentioned that this new landmark of CUC, cost nearly 20 million yuan for its renovation, during which CUC was under a tight budget.

Shortly afterwards, new research progress was presented by school leaders. At the same time, the Annual Conference of the Academic Committee for 2020 and Future Construction Seminar was held with summaries on this year’s work and project guidelines for 2021. In the afternoon, three high-end academic forums regarding on media convergence and communication were held in the building.
