The 8th World Women University Presidents Forum was held in Wuhan, China on April 7
The 8th World Women University Presidents Forum ran from April 7 to 9 at Wuhan University in Wuhan province and successfully concluded. Initiated by the Communication University of China in 2001, the World Women University Presidents Forum has built itself into a platform of communication and collaboration for female and education issues worldwide. Numerous wisdoms and ideas pooled at the forum have helped to further the development of world’s higher education with the attendance of over 1,100 female presidents from more than 100 countries and regions over the past 17 years.
The forum this time was under the theme of Future Education·New Leadership·Community with Shared Future for Mankind, with presenters of female university presidents and experts from 51 countries and regions across five continents. It explored the expectation of higher education in the Information Age and demonstrated great concerns over female development, as well as the focus on the new leadership.
Liao Xiangzhong, the president of CUC, hosted the opening ceremony last Sunday. Chen Zhili, the former state councilor, now serving as the vice-chairman of the 11th Standing Committee of NPC, the chairman of 10th ACWF (the All-China Women's Federation) and the Honorary President of the council of modern women's leadership academy, delivered a speech on the occasion. (The President of CUC Liao Xiangzhong gave a speech on the opening ceremony)
The United Nation also showed its concern with the addresses by the former director-general of UNESCO Irina Bokova and Saniye Gülser Corat,UNESCO Director for Gender Equality .The vice-chairman of CPPCC, Lin Wenyi and other honored guests attended the meeting and voiced their opinions as well.
The organizing committee of the 8th World Women University Presidents Forum unanimously agreed to honor 12 female university presidents with Lifetime Honorary Awards, which is only given to female university presidents over 70 who have been consistently involved in the development of higher education and greatly contributing to the development of the Forum. The prizes were presented by Chen Zhili, Lin Wenyi and Irina Bokova. (12 female university presidents were honored with Lifetime Honorary Awards in the forum.)
All participants held in-depth discussions and exchanges of their ideas at the forum, as "Belt and Road Initiative and University Collaboration” sub-forum and “My Life of Teaching” round-table conference became the highlights owing to their distinguished themes, attendees and cooperative projects. Female university presidents from home and abroad also had a get-together with students on Monday.
The chairman of the University Council of CUC, Chen Wenshen, Lin Wenyi and other experts addressed closing remarks on Tuesday. In the meanwhile, Lei Yaping, the president of Xi'an Technological University, the organizer of the following Forum, made an invitation of the 9th World Women University Presidents Forum.
