Swahili language class in CUC, consisting of 12 junior students, was devoted to the translation work during the visit. They help local residence in Tanzania with translating their state of illnesses as well as conveying the diagnosis and treatment to patients and local doctors in Tanzania who came to study.

Since the translation requires a large number of terms from surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, ear-nose-throat (ENT) , gynaecology ,etc, students started to prepare medical vocabulary and get familiar with commonly used conversation in diagnosis as soon as the embassy called on for volunteers.

When students were uncertain about some difficult points during the translating job, they would consult for the teachers to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of translation. Meanwhile, they needed to get up at 6 in the morning and worked for 6 to 8 hours a day nearly without any break. Despite the fatigue, they stick to their work and perfectly finished the task of translating for 600 patients per day.

Medical workers and relevant officials from both China and Tanzania think highly of volunteers from CUC. And all of them will receive a certificate from “Harmonious Mission-2017” Command post of PLA Navy.

It has travelled to countries including Djibouti, Sierra Leone, Gabon for goodwill visit and humanitarian services in almost 100 day and finished its first visit in Africa in Tanzania. A total of 6441 people has received free on-board medical and humanitarian services in Tanzania, which wins a big round of applause from both people and government there.

CUC is the first university in China offering a major in Swahili language. The Swahili language of our university has been incorporated into National Non-general foreign language training base in the Ministry of education. This time junior students who went to Das Sadam University in Tanzania for exchange study had all received scholarships from the China Scholarship Council.
