Students Win CUC’s First Silver Medal in ACM-ICPC Asia Beijing Regional Contest

CUC Students attend 2017 ACM-ICPC Asia Beijing Regional Contest.
Two teams from Communication University of China (CUC) won a silver medal and an honorable mention in the 2017 ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) Asia Beijing Regional Contest held on November 19th. This is the first time CUC students won a silver medal in the ACM-ICPC. Thanks to their outstanding performances, students also received CUC’s first certification of ranking in ACP-ICPC. (Only the top 30 universities achieve the certification, and CUC is currently in 27th).

Two teams attended the contest on behalf of CUC: EatWhat Team and RGB Team. EatWhat Team is composed of Sun Zhonghui (a senior majoring in Digital Media Technology), Wang Xuezhu (a junior majoring in Game Design Technology) and Chu Guojun (a junior majoring in Applied Statistics). RGB Team is composed of Zhang Chenglin (a junior majoring in Digital Media Technology), Ban Chunhui (a junior majoring in Game Design Technology) and Hu Yunqing (a sophomore majoring in Information Security). Students were coached by Yang Lifang and led by Li Chen. EatWhat Team, led by captain Sun Zhonghui, won a silver medal, and RGB team, led by Ban Chunhui, won an honorable mention.

ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC or ICPC) is hosted by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It is an annual contest aiming to reveal undergraduates’ innovative minds and team spirit, as well as their programming skills and problem-solving ability under pressure. With 40 years of history, ACM-ICPC has become one of the most influential collegiate programing contests around the world.

CUC students attended the online tryout of 42th ACM-ICPC Asia Beijing Regional Contest on September 23rd, 2017. After competing against more than 16 hundred teams, CUC students gained one place in the spot contest through tryout, and were granted an additional place after submission. Launched at the Peking University’s Gymnasium on November 18th and 19th, 2017, the spot contest attracted 195 teams from 134 universities including The University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University and Mongolian university of Science and Technology.
