SIMON MATINGWINA, a Ph.D. student in Communication from Institute of Communication Studies, Faculty of Journalism and Communication in CUC, has been awarded the Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship in the year 2017, according to Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs), Ministry of Education.In the spring semester in 2017, based on the requirements from Ministry of Education and the states of our school, 2 postgraduates from Faculty of Journalism and Communication and 1 postgraduate from Faculty of arts was selected as the nominees. Reviewed by officials concerned and checked by China Scholarship Council, list of winners was finally released by Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs), Ministry of Education.SIMON MATINGWINA who comes from Zimbabwe is one of the scholarship winners. Graduated from International Master of International Communication program for developing countries in 2014, it has been two years since he worked on his Ph.D. in Communication in CUC. So far, he has published two English essays, one of which is released on SSCI. Meanwhile he also has two other essays being accepted and proofread by SSCI.Apart from his outstanding academic performance, predominant scientific research ability and fruitful scientific research output, he also actively participates in the scientific research led by his supervisor and helps other foreign students write essays. What is more, he has made great contribution in promoting the academic communication between China and Africa, building up African cooperation platform for African Communication research center and helping with holding academic conference,lecture and visits.
“The Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship” is aimed for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students studied in pointed universities, targeting on inspiring foreign students in China to be diligent and enterprising. There are 600 awardees in year 2017, among which 485 are pointed and 185 are open to public. CUC can nominate three candidates to compete for the open quota.
