CUC Delegation Improves Ties with Partners in Europe

The delegation from Communication University of China(CUC), led by Chen Wenshen,Chairman of the university council, visited the University of Belgrade in Serbia, the University of Ostrava in Czech and the University of Warsaw in Poland from November 23rd to December 2nd . This trip was to further enhance CUC’s collaborations with partners in Europe  .

Founded in 1808, the University of Belgrade is the oldest and most well-known comprehensive university in Serbia with 33 faculties and nearly 100,000 students. In 2009, CUC set up a Confucius Institute with the University of Belgrade, which has become an influential platform in Serbia for promoting Chinese cultures., When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Serbia in June 2016, the Confucius Institute led by Dean Pušić organized a series of Chinese cultural events. The Dean Pušić eventually was awarded for his great efforts by President of Serbia. Chairman Chen met with Rector Vladimir Bumbaširević and Vice Rector Nada Ratković Kovačević of the University of Belgrade during the visit. Rector Bumbaširević suggested deepening cooperation between two universities in fields of journalism and communication, information science and big data researches, etc, and promoting teachers and students exchanges in near future.

Chairman Chen and other delegation members attended the 2016 Annual Council of Confucius Institute in Belgrade, reviewing and passing the 2016 Financial Report and the Working Report. Chairman Chen thought highly of the Confucius Institute in Belgrade for its outstanding work to promote Chinese culture and the relationship between two universities, saying that the institute could further develop into a think tank for governments and joint academics. Prof. Pang Zengyu, the director of the Confucius Institute Management Office of CUC, and Prof. Ljiljana MarkoviĆ, the dean of the Faculty of Philology in University of Belgrade, agreed to further expand bilateral ties and cooperation.

The CUC delegation also received warm reception in University of Ostrava in Czech. Based on UO’s visit to CUC this March, the CUC delegation discussed in details with the partner in fields of arts, intelligent media, communicative psychology, and international talents training and certification. Chairman Chen briefed about CUC’s latest progress in cerebral science study to Rector Jan Lata and Vice Rector Tomaskova and other colleagues in University of Ostrava. Mr. Rector of UO expressed his interest in cooperating with CUC in the fields of cerebral science and intelligent media studies. He also said two universities share much in common in terms of interdisciplinary researches of photography, animation, big data and health Communication. A further cooperation should include the exchange programs for teachers and students as well as joint trainings and summer schools. After the meeting, the CUC delegation visited the studios and students’ workshops for printing, photography, painting, sculpturing and multimedia production of UO.

The University of Warsaw founded in 1816 was the third stop of the delegation, which is the most well-known university in Poland. Both parties agreed on joint researches in the cutting-edge fields like digital humanities. The existing program of student exchange will be renewed in January, 2017. Afterwards, the CUC delegation visited the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies, which is the only communication educational institution that has Bachelor, Master and Doctor programs in Poland.

The delegation also visited CUC students studying in the University of Warsaw. So far, a  total of ten 10 CUC students from Communication University of China  have studied furthered their education in University of Warsaw since the program startedwas initiated. In the future, the number will continue to increase.
