Local student say hello to China

Located in the city of the Serbian steel mills, this Chinese classroom was established in September by the Confucius Institute in Belgrade, thanks to the sponsorship of Hebei Iron & Steel Group. Being the only high school in northern Serbia, Smedrevo is a place where many steel workers send their children for study. Ever since the acquisition of steel mills by the Guoup, the city has been enchanted by a "Chinese fever"— the whole city became fascinated by learning Chinese language and culture. In order to serve for the local demands, the Belgrade Confucius Institute opened a Chinese interest and culture course in Smedrevo.

Since the Confucius Institute in our school proposed to the secondary school to build a special Chinese class, we have received considerable support from both municipal government and Hebei Iron & Steel Group. The school has been built as the most advanced and most versatile multi-functional classrooms in the school, equipped with computers, projectors and smart whiteboards.

On the opening ceremony, Rebecca, mayor of Smederevo, said that Chinese enterprises brought vitality to the city and inspire the public's enthusiasm for Chinese culture. She appreciated the Confucius Institute for offering the children the opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture, and bridge the gap between the two peoples.
