Dr. Hu Zhengrong was appointed President of CUC on September 27th, with approval from the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.Wang Liying announced the decision and made an important speech. 

The announcement of the new president was made on September 27th at a meeting hosted by Secretary Chen Wenshen. Lv Jie, Vice Director of the Personnel Department of Minister for Education, and Chen Jianghua, in charge of Beijing Municipal Education Commission attended the meeting. Present at the meeting were senior CUC administrators, professor representatives, retired staff representatives, etc.

In his inaugural address, President Hu Zhengrong emphasized that higher educational institutions should pay more attention to the National Strategy. CUC should hold the general trend of events, seize the opportunities and implement new strategies so as to adapt to industry changes and meet new challenges.

He said that he will fulfill his duties and focus on innovation, in order to carry out the mission of the president of CUC. He emphasized 4 aspects to achieve the goal. Firstly, integrate the educational orientation of CUC and the party's education policy; secondly, follow the laws of higher education and focus on academics; thirdly, further improve the quality of personnel training to cultivate more talents for the society; lastly, grasp the opportunity of the Double First-rate campaign promoted by Ministry of Education, to accelerate the construction of the world-level communication university.

He finally stressed that, under the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal Committee, the school party will work hard to establish the Double First-rate university.

Academic Background
In May 1966, he was born in Yinchuan, Ningxia and his ancestral home is Kaifeng, Henan. From 1982 to 1986, he learnt in News Department of Communication University of China (formerly known as  Beijing Broadcasting Institute) and got the Bachelor’s Degree in Law. In 1996, he proceeded the doctor degree at the School of Journalism of Communication Renmin University of China and received Doctor of Literature in 1999.

 

Work Experience:
Currently, he works as the President of Communication University of China, director of Radio and Television Research Center---Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Science approved by Ministry of Education. He has worked as Vice-president of CUC, assistant teacher, lecturer, associate professor, professor, vice dean of Journalism Department and the chief of the Office of Academic Affairs in Beijing Broadcasting Institute as well as the executive vice-president of Graduate School of Communication University of China.

 

Social Appoinments:
Organizer for 6th and 7th Journalism and Communication Consultative Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; Chairman of Journalism and Communication Teaching Instruction Commission of Ministry of Education from 2013 to 2017.


Academic Research:
Mainly research fields cover communication theory, policies and systems of mediums, political economy of communications, new medium and international communication, etc.

Holding national quality course and Beijing quality course---Communication, the Communication teaching group led by him became the national level teaching team.

At present, he is presiding over the great projects including national social science great tender project “The Research about International Communication Development New Tendency and Speeding up Launching Modern Communication System”(2012), the major project of Education Ministry social science key research base “Research on China International Communication Establishment Based on Radio, Television and New Media”(2012) and China Radio International “International Communication Talents Cultivation” (2010). He also bears and complete multiple scientific research projects entrusted by Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, State Council Information Office, Ministry of Culture, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China as well as the medium around the whole China.


Highlights and Honors:
Annual Project on the Development of China’s International Communication-International Communication Blue Paper (chief editor, 2015), Annual Report about Global Media Industries-Global Media Blue Paper (chief editor, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), New Media Industries Frontiers (chief editor, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), General Theory about Communication 1997 (gained the second prize of the Tenth Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Science) and so on. 
He published papers over 170 and sum to over 4 million characters.


Overseas Experience:
Guest Scientist in John F. Kennedy School of Government from 2005 to 2006, visiting professor in University of Westminster--Le WoHuoM in 2006 and Honorary Doctorate of University of Westminster in 2011, etc,

Beijing Outstanding Young Teacher in 1991, Beijing Outstanding Young Core Teacher in 1995, Henry Fok Educational Foundation Association Research Sponsor in 1999, Cross-Century Talents by Ministry of Education in 2000, Special Allowance of State Council in 2001, National Level Personage of New Century Talent Project in the New Millennium held by seven ministries and commissions in 2006 and the First prize of Beijing High Schools Excellent Teaching Results in 2003 and so forth.
