The Second China Media Education New Year Knowledge Forum was held on Jan. 10 at the Communication University of China (CUC), gathering renown scholars and media practitioners to review major developments in journalism and communication in 2025 and to discuss future trends in the field. The event was livestreamed on multiple platforms.

The forum was jointly organized by the Communication University of China Press, Modern Publishing, the Hainan Publishing Knowledge Service Center, the Ningxia Publishing Knowledge Service Center, and the Shaanxi Publishing Knowledge Service Center. Centered on the mission of advancing the development of media and publishing studies, the event consisted of seven thematic keynote sessions combining academic perspectives with industry practice.

The event was moderated by Liu Hailong, professor and director of the Department of Communication at the School of Journalism, Renmin University of China, and editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Journalism & Communication. Speakers included Wang Chenyao, professor at Nanjing University; Xu Tao, founder of podcast production platform JustPod; Huang Yalan and Liu Tao, professors at Jinan University; Ye Long, dean of the School of Data Science and Intelligent Media at CUC; Wu Yao, associate professor at CUC and screenwriter; and Dong Chenyu, associate professor at Renmin University of China.

Across the seven sessions, speakers addressed topics such as innovation in journalism amid digital transformation, the development of podcasting and audio media, cultural evolution in Chinese-language media, visual communication from traditional visual imagery to AI-driven creation, approaches to combating audio-visual misinformation, narrative changes in contemporary screen production, and the development of online influencers in China's digital ecosystem.

By integrating theoretical analysis with case-based discussion, the forum highlighted the integration of academic research and industry practice. The sessions analyzed both current challenges and long-term transformations in journalism and communication, reflecting broader technological and cultural changes in the industry.
During the event, Zhang Yuqiang, president of the Communication University of China Press, and Xuan Baojian, deputy editor-in-chief, presented commemorative awards to selected contributors honored for their outstanding contributions to media observation and knowledge sharing in 2025.

The China Media Education New Year Knowledge Forum was first launched in 2024 and has since grown into an annual academic forum in the field of journalism and communication. Organizers said the event aims to foster sustained dialogue between academia and the media industry while providing impetus for the development of research and industry practice in years ahead.
