Lu Yibo, an undergraduate student of the Chinese-English Bilingual Announcing and Anchoring Program at the Communication University of China (CUC), wowed the audience with a standout speech at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Global Model World Health Organization (Model WHO). The high-profile event was held at the WHO headquarters in Geneva in late October.

Lu was among hundreds of student delegates worldwide at this high-level simulation event. Representing Sudan on the committee themed "Fostering Social Connection for Global Health", he played an active role in debates and negotiations throughout the four-day conference.

In his closing speech, Lu wove in insights from his exclusive interview with world-renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall. He vividly illustrated how the intricate connection between humans and the ecosystem underpins global health.

To reinforce his argument, he highlighted zoonotic disease transmission as a compelling example, stressing that cross-border public health cooperation is not an option but a necessity. In an era where diseases spread across borders at breakneck speed, such collaboration is the linchpin of the global health architecture.

Lu wrapped up his speech with Dr. Goodall's iconic quote: "Together we can, together we will, and together we must save this world." The powerful words struck a chord with the international audience, leaving an indelible impression.

Lu's success is a testament to the rigorous training offered by CUC's School of International Studies. Designed to cultivate high-caliber professionals in international communication, the Chinese-English Bilingual Announcing and Anchoring Program offers a well-structured curriculum that covers English language and culture, bilingual announcing and anchoring techniques, public speaking, debate, interpretation, international journalism and intercultural communication.

To bolster students' practical skills, the program has rolled out a series of initiatives, such as the English Speech and Debate Training Camp and the Converged Media Creation Practicum. These hands-on programs enable students to put theoretical knowledge into practice, sharpening their professional skills and building confidence.

"A core objective of our program is to nurture students with outstanding language skills, a strong sense of global citizenship and intercultural competence," noted the program director. "Witnessing our students excel on international platforms like Geneva validates the effectiveness of our educational philosophy."

Student participation in events such as the Global Model WHO is a key component of CUC's talent development strategy. The university strives to cultivate a new generation of young professionals with a global perspective, a commitment to Chinese values, and the expertise to make meaningful contributions on the world stage. Through such initiatives, CUC is equipping its students to tackle complex global challenges and play a constructive role in international affairs.
