The School of International Studies (SIS) at the Communication University of China (CUC) welcomed 299 new students following a three-day orientation held from September 6 to 8. The incoming class comprises 10 doctoral students, 71 master's students and 218 undergraduates.

From September 6, faculties and student volunteers were on site as early as 7:30 each morning to receive and register new students. Staff and class assistants helped students complete enrollment procedures, distributed welcome packs, and provided support.

The welcome package featured "hello" in multiple languages, underlining the school's commitment to diversity. Each kit also contained a school-branded notebook, a student-work handbook and a CUC identity badge. Liao Xiangzhong, the Party secretary of CUC and Zhang Shaohua, the deputy Party secretary of CUC visited the orientation site to greet students and thank the faculty and volunteers for their efforts.

After registration, each class held its first meeting under the guidance of class advisors and assistants. New students completed information forms and submitted required documents. Short ice-breaker sessions followed; classmates introduced themselves, elected temporary class officers, showcasing the Class of 2025's readiness to take on responsibilities.

The formal opening ceremony was held in the auditorium of CUC on September 11. Attendees included Li Yehui, the Party secretary of SIS, Wen Chunying, the Dean of SIS, Zhao Jiang, a distinguished alumnus and the Director of the Tamil Language Department at the Asian-African Languages Programming Center of China Media Group, as well as class advisors, counselors, and the Class of 2025.

In the opening lecture, titled "See Yourself, the World, and the Future," Dean Wen highlighted the School's defining strengths: instruction in less-commonly taught languages and bilingual language acquisition, a focus on the international communication, hands-on media practice as a learning platform, and excellence in content creation. She encouraged students to broaden cross-cultural perspectives and to develop interdisciplinary skills necessary for international communication careers.

The ceremony also featured speeches from the representatives of undergraduate and graduate. They voiced their aspirations for further studies and development as excellent international communicators at SIS. Highlighting the School's inclusive cultural atmosphere and rigorous approaches to education, this year's orientation and opening ceremony showcased the confidence of the Class of 2025 in embracing the School's spirit of "multilingual, multidisciplinary, and multi-skilled" at CUC.
