Communication University of China (CUC) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation across multiple fields, during a meeting between CUC President Zhang Shuting and a UTM delegation led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim.

President Zhang Shuting and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding as the Malaysian university delegation visited Communication University of China on May 14th.
Zhang introduced CUC’s history, disciplinary strengths and recent progress in international education, stressing that CUC and UTM shared a solid foundation of cooperation, and had achieved fruitful outcomes in joint research, talent cultivation and cultural exchanges.
In April 2025, the ASEAN Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, co-established by CUC and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), was included in the China-Malaysia Joint Statement as one of the achievements of China-Malaysia education cooperation.
Zhang expressed hope that the two universities would deepen practical cooperation in such fields as academic research, digital media, educational innovation and faculty-student exchanges, in an effort to contribute educational strength to building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future in the new era.
Prof. Rahim spoke highly of CUC’s academic achievements and social impact. He also said that as one of Malaysia’s top comprehensive public universities, UTM had strong disciplinary complementarity with CUC.
Rahim said that he hoped that the two sides could establish a regular and institutionalized cooperation mechanism, with a focus on cutting-edge areas including artificial intelligence applications, creative media technology, brand management and strategic communication.
Through this platform, he believed, the two universities could co-organize high-level academic workshops and research projects, foster more competitive talents and make new breakthroughs in educational innovation.
The UTM delegation included Prof. Dr. Intan Zaurah binti Mat Darus, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) of UTM; Prof. Dr. Nasrul Humaimi Mahmood and Prof. Dr. Tuan Amran Abdullah, Special Officers to the Vice-Chancellor.
Attendees from CUC were Shu Gangbo, Assistant to the President, Zhao Xinli, Dean of the School of Advertising and Branding, Wang Wenyuan, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, among other officials.
Founded in 1904, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is one of Malaysia’s leading national universities, offering programs in arts, sciences, engineering, business and medicine. UTM was ranked 153rd in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
