Recently, the 20th China Network Science Forum was held at Communication University of China, sponsored by the Chinese Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, hosted by Communication University of China and the Complex Networks and Complex Systems Committee of the Chinese Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and co-organized by the National Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication, the School of Data Science and Intelligent Media, the School of Information and Communication Engineering, and the Network Science and Engineering Committee of the Chinese Command and Control Society.

The theme of this forum is Generate the Future, Generate Value, which aims to provide an academic exchange platform for experts and scholars in related fields to discuss and exchange cutting-edge theories and technical achievements in generating the future and complex networks, generating the future and open source intelligence, generating value and international communication, generating value and online public opinion, generating value and cognitive science, etc. The forum attracted more than 400 participants from more than 150 universities and research institutes across the country.

The forum's honorary chairman, Professor Chen Guanrong of City University of Hong Kong, the forum's chairman, Professor Li Xiang of Tongji University, and Chai Jianping, Vice President of Communication University of China, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Shen Hao, Chief Scientist of Big Data at the State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication of Communication University of China, presided over the opening ceremony.

Chen Guanrong thanked Communication University of China for its strong support for this conference and Shen Hao's team for their hard work. He reviewed the development of the China Network Science Forum over the past 20 years, emphasized the forum's influence and lasting vitality across the country, and hoped that more young forces would join in the future to contribute more results to China's network science and maintain China's position on the international academic stage.

Li Xiang said that the China Network Science Forum has trained a large number of outstanding scholars in the field of network science and has become a cradle for cultivating network science talents. In the face of the current generative artificial intelligence models that are constantly being updated, we must see their close connection with network science and give full play to the important role of network science in promoting the in-depth development of artificial intelligence.

On behalf of Communication University of China, Chai Jianping extended a warm welcome to the leaders and guests attending the conference, and expressed sincere gratitude to friends from all walks of life who care about and support the China Network Science Forum. He pointed out that the research and application of network science is of great significance to the country's development strategy. Communication University of China will re-plan and optimize the future development of the school based on the logic of artificial intelligence, seize opportunities, meet challenges, take the initiative, promote the full penetration of artificial intelligence into all development fields of the school, and realize the new upgrade of the school, so that Communication University of China, which rose because of radio, prospered because of television, and flourished because of the Internet, can also become stronger because of AI in the future, and answer the new question of the times of strengthening the country through education, and what does Communication University of China do in the era of artificial intelligence.

In the main forum report session, experts from universities and enterprises such as Humboldt University of Germany, Fudan University, Communication University of China, and Alibaba Cloud brought an academic exchange with cutting-edge enthusiasm, thinking power, and academic depth. Experts discussed cutting-edge topics and technologies including complex network research on extreme climate events, autonomous underwater robot technology, the safety of intelligent driving systems, and complex social systems with human-machine integration, demonstrating the application potential of network science in multiple fields and providing new ideas and directions for future technological development and academic research.

Shen Hao delivered a keynote speech at the forum entitled “Generating the Future, Generating Value: New Perspectives on Social Science Research from the Perspective of Network Science”, exploring how network science, as an emerging interdisciplinary field, can open up new perspectives for social science research, focusing on its potential and practice in predicting future trends and creating social value.

This forum has 14 Chinese sub-forums and 1 English sub-forum, covering complex networks, cluster dynamics, international communication, online public opinion and cognitive science. Experts and scholars from universities and research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Tongji University, Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Communication University of China shared their cutting-edge thinking and research results in the above fields, and jointly discussed the theory and practice of generative artificial intelligence and network science.

Yin Fulian, deputy director of the Scientific Research Office of Communication University of China, Zou Yu, professor of the State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication, Wang Yan, professor of the School of Data Science and Intelligent Media, and Li Shufeng, professor of the School of Information and Communication Engineering, actively organized teachers and students of Communication University of China to participate in this forum.
