From July 6 to July 7, the 27th IEEE/ACIS Conference on Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Networks and Parallel/Distributed Computing (SNPD 2024-Summer) was held at Communication University of China. The conference was co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association for Computer and Information Science (ACIS), hosted by the School of Computer and Cyberspace Security of Communication University of China, and co-organized by the State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence and Communication and the Science and Technology Association of Communication University of China. Nearly 100 experts, scholars and researchers from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Morocco and other countries gathered together to discuss Innovation in the integration of software engineering, artificial intelligence and network computing: towards new thinking, new technologies and new practices.

On the morning of July 6, SNPD 2024-Summer was officially opened at the Communication University of China Academic Center. Chai Jianping, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Communication University of China, Simon Xu, CEO of ACIS and Dean of the School of Computer Science at Algoma University in Canada, Lin Weiguo, Dean of the School of Computer and Cyberspace Security at Communication University of China, and Lu Xiaopeng, Deputy Director of Beijing Science and Technology International Exchange Center, and many other leaders attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Lin Weiguo, Chairman of the Conference.

On behalf of the host university, Chai Jianping welcomed all the leaders, domestic and foreign experts, scholars and researchers who attended the conference, expressed gratitude to all the teachers and students who participated in the preparation of the conference, and emphasized that this conference is not only an academic event in the field of computer science, but also a vivid practice of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches on scientific and technological innovation.

Simon Xu and Lin Weiguo delivered speeches on behalf of the organizer and the organizer respectively. They hope that SNPD 2024-Summer can provide a platform for global experts and scholars to exchange ideas and collide wisdom, and jointly explore the future of software engineering, artificial intelligence and network computing.

Outstanding scholars from home and abroad delivered a series of keynote speeches

After the opening ceremony, a series of keynote speeches were launched. Chris Nugent, professor at the University of Ulster, UK, discussed Where AI meets IoT: A Case Study in human activity recognition, taking human activity recognition as an example to show new ways for technology to reshape world perception; Zhao Bo , professor at Wuhan University, focused on The application and thinking of trusted technology in power information innovation, emphasizing the importance of network security to energy system security; Simon Xu, professor at Algoma University in Canada, brought Optimizing Software Evolution: Navigating the Landscape through Concept Location, and explored effective ways to promote the continuous evolution of software systems in complex environments from the perspective of software engineering; Yu Hui , professor at the University of Glasgow , UK, took the title of Visual and cognitive computing for human-machine interaction, revealing how visual cognitive computing can revolutionize human-machine interaction design and promote more natural human-machine interaction and collaboration; Ma Siwei , professor at Peking University, shared Progress in intelligent video coding technology, showing China's cutting-edge breakthroughs in the field of high-quality video processing; Lei Ting , professor at the University of Kansas, introduced Large-scale Integration of Remotely Sensed and GIS road networks: a full image-vector conflation approach based on optimization and deep learning”, proposed an innovative GIS data integration solution, opening up new possibilities for geospatial analysis; Song Mingli, professor at the Communication University of China , gave a talk titled “Exploration of Several Issues in Time Series Forecasting”, providing new ideas for forecasting models in the fields of finance and meteorology.

The conference sub-forum carefully planned 5 paper presentation units, which were carried out in a combination of online and offline forms. Nearly 100 experts, scholars and researchers from universities around the world focused on multiple fields such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, and network computing, while integrating multidisciplinary perspectives such as social sciences and art design to share their research results and promote interdisciplinary academic exchanges.

Since its inception in 2000, the SNPD conference has become an important communication platform in the field of computer science around the world. The hosting of SNPD 2024-Summer by Communication University of China on the occasion of its 70th anniversary not only demonstrates the school's profound academic foundation and broad international vision, but also shows the world the ability and determination of Communication University of China to cultivate globally competitive scientific and technological talents. The convening of this conference coincides with the critical period for the launch of the school's Artificial Intelligence Action Plan. This is not only a cross-border scientific and technological exploration journey, but also an in-depth practice of interdisciplinary cooperation. While promoting exchanges and cooperation, it has also injected new vitality into the implementation of the school's Artificial Intelligence Action Plan.
