President Hu Zhengrong met with an academic delegation led by Vice President Joy Johnson from Simon Fraser University last Monday. Jiang Xufan, Vice President of CUC, had discussions with Dr. Johnson and extended an inter-university agreement regarding a Master of Arts Double Degree Program in Global Communication that is jointly administered by both SFU and CUC.

Developed by the CUC’s Faculty of Journalism and Communication and SFU’s School of Communication, the program has welcomed students from all over the world for five years. Chinese participants selected from graduate programs at CUC study with international students at SFU for one year before completing the program at CUC. Upon completion, students receive graduate degrees from both universities.

While acknowledging the success of the five-year program, Jiang Xufan expressed hopes that the two colleges could scale up enrolment, improve program sustainability, and cooperate to further improve teacher communication and curriculum development.

Professor Johnson expressed appreciation for the support and funding given to SFU by CUC, and promised to expand student aid channels and coordinate resources with CUC to improve student learning experiences.

The delegation from SFU included Tim La Erie, Assistant Vice President and Vice Director of Teaching Affairs, Shaheen Nanji, Acting Executive Director of the Institute for Diaspora Research and Engagement, Joseph Varacchia, Director of International Strategy Division, and Dr. Zhao Yuezhi, program director of the Double MA program in Global Communication. Also in attendance were representatives from the International Exchange and Cooperative Centre, the Student International Exchange Department, as well as CUC’s Faculty of Journalism and Communication.
