Opening Ceremony for New CUC Students

The students of 2017 began their first lesson on September 20 at CUC Student Activities Center. Students and their families, special guests, and representatives of staff members gathered at this Opening Ceremony, to celebrate the new beginning.

Freshmen are welcomed by Chairman of the University Council, professor Chen Wenshen, University President, professor Hu Zhengrong and other members of the university leadership. The ceremony was opened with the Chinese national anthem.

The ceremony was hosted by Vice President, professor Jiang Xufan.

On behalf of the University, President Hu Zhengrong delivered a speech to congratulate the students of 2017 on joining their ideal university.

In his speech, President Hu Zhengrong introduced the history of Communication University of China and explained the meaning of the university motto. He stressed that  "Every journey begins with the first step" and wished that all students will have a wonderful college life.

As representative of all staff members, professor Chai Jianping, from Faculty of Science and Technology, said that teacher is a sacred occupation and the faculty in our university should not only be a good teacher but also a helpful friend of students. Meanwhile, he said that all the teachers are ready to devote themselves to the construction of first-class university.

On behalf of all parents, Mr Wang Yaohua expressed families’ wishes to all students.

Student representatives, including president of the Student Union Fangkuan, master student Zhang Chuxue , undergraduate student Wang Yu, and a foreign student Tan Ya, who is from Ukraine, also delivered their speeches at the ceremony.

Mr Jin Yue, a 1981 alumnus of Faculty of Journalism in his speech shared his professional experiences as the Chairman of China Central Newsreal & Documentary Studio. He encouraged students to focus on foundation subjects learning and expand the horizon as much as possible, to shoulder their responsibilities as the mainstay of the Chinese society.

During the ceremony, talented CUC performers recited a poem called “The Voice of China” to honor all the media workers.

After performances, the ceremony ended with school song “The Young White Poplar”, which attracted all attendees to stand up and join the choruses.
