Cui Yongyuan Oral History Research Center

Cui Yongyuan Oral History Research Center is located in No. 24 building of CUC campus. It was built in 2002 and opened to the public in 2013, requiring no admission fee. This center has 6 permanent exhibitions, including Oral History, Legends of Film, Hollywood, Picture-Story Books, Film Master and Du Benji Studio.

Cui Yongyuan, the founder of this Research Center, graduated from CUC and became a well-known host in CCTV. He now teaches at CUC.
Mr. Cui and his team has worked on oral history for the past 15 years. They have collected 0.8 million minutes of video footage from nearly 4000 people. This research center now is one of the biggest oral history museum in China.

Museum by day, Study Rooms by night

Mr. Cui proposed to make the best use of space, thus the museum was designed to include exhibitions as well as study rooms. There are over 90 study seats in this museum, by booking an appointment in advance, you can visit at night, free of charge.

The film museum is the most popular exhibit where Mr. Cui displays his collection of Oscar-nominated film posters. For example, there are five kinds of posters of the Last Emperor, from Germany, America, Czech Republic, Spain and China. Of course, if you want to learn more, come and see this unique exhibit in person.

Exhibition of Picture-Story Books

This exhibition boasts an extensive collection of comic books. Patrons are encouraged to touch and read them, for Mr. Cui hopes to inspire moments to interact with history. He also mentioned that the collection of books is so extensive that students could spend 20 years reading through it. So, why not read now?

The Art Museum for Du Benji

In this exhibition, you can see paintings and calligraphy of Du Benji, a Chinese modern artist who coincidentally, taught Mr. Cui handwriting. Some stone tablet with Du’s handwriting are used as table for study.

Curiously, many gourds hang from the ceiling in this museum. It is sad that Mr. Cui once suddenly stepped on the table and opened one gourd that was filled with candy. He generously shared these candies with students studying there. “If you feel tired when studying, you can take them.” He said, and the gourds are his special gifts.
