For the summer semester, Communication University of China (CUC) designs hands-on courses that integrate fieldwork and internships, enabling students to “learn through practice and refine through doing” as well as to benefit from interdisciplinary collaboration. The class of 2024 Broadcasting and Anchoring (Bilingual in Chinese & English) students enrolled in Language Communication Practice course, and also expanded traditional classroom learnings through substantive media internships and cross-cultural exchanges.
Announcers at International Events
The summer of 2025 provided opportunities for several announcing and anchoring students to demonstrate their skills on some of the world’s most prominent sporting stages. Through rigorous training and with dedicated work, these youngsters improved their ability to manage high-pressure scenarios, refine cross-cultural communication, and deliver professional broadcast content with clarity and adaptability.
At the World Games 2025 Chengdu, Yang Sile served as an English announcer for the indoor korfball competitions. Her role required not only flawless pronunciation of names of athletes from diverse linguistic backgrounds, but also nuanced control over tone and pacing to match the rhythm of the matches. She worked closely with the event’s international production team to synchronize her commentary with live visuals and audience interactions. Reflecting on the experience, Yang noted, “It was more than announcing—it was about building a shared atmosphere of respect and excitement for every nation in the arena.”
At the China Open tennis tournament, Huang Renkang served as an English announcer for multiple matches. In his training sessions and collaboration with seasoned professionals, he mastered tennis terminology, refined live narration techniques, and enhanced his ability to maintain clarity and composure during extended rallies. He is confident in delivering engaging and professional narration to a global audience.
Dai Leying worked in the director's team for the Seventh China-Arab States Expo opening ceremony. She carefully matched words in different languages with the right pictures on screen, and made sure all props and media materials were ready on time during the opening ceremony. She also helped check the video shots and communicated with translators to follow language rules and avoid mistakes. Her work supported the smooth and professional broadcast of the event.
Producing News with Global Impact
As a journalism intern at China Central Television 7 (CCTV7), Wang Xinya coordinated interviews, edited news videos, and took part in the full production process of military programs. “I used to think reporting was just about being on camera,” she reflected, “but now I see it involves writing, shooting, editing, and teamwork all together.” Through scripting under tight deadlines and adapting to last-minute changes in the field, she strengthened her ability to work efficiently in unpredictable media settings.
As an intern supporting the Belt and Road Initiative-related programs at Global Communication Center of Chengdu Radio and Television Station, Wen Han conducted an interview with Egyptian tourism official Sherbeiny Mohamed, focusing on cultural exchanges between Egypt and Chengdu under the Belt and Road framework. “I was both nervous and excited—I was pushed beyond my comfort zone every day.” he recalled. The interview was later broadcast on Chengdu Plus, and Mr. Mohamed expressed interest in inviting the team to produce a cultural documentary in Egypt.
Ye Zuyu interned at Shenzhen Media Group's financial program, producing and presenting explainer videos. Wen Siyuan worked in Chongqing Economy Radio at Chongqing Broadcasting Group (CBG), handling market research, planning daily episodes and editing news videos. Both focused on transforming complex information into publicly accessible content for multi-platform distribution.
Ding Weiyi curated a cultural exhibition on Kouji, an ancient Chinese vocal art of sound imitation in Beijing. She later produced a feature story based on this event, focusing on intangible cultural heritage and rural revitalization. Her report was published by China News Network (Ecns.cn), demonstrating how local cultural narratives can achieve broad influence through professional media dissemination.
Education Exchange Across Borders
Du Mi and Li Yifei participated in a summer program at Swansea University, UK, where they studied courses on British culture and media. During a news writing course, Du Mi won first prize for her outstanding performance. “The experience reshaped my understanding of what it means to be a cultural translator,” Du shared. “It’s about finding shared meaning between different worlds.”
Wan Qixuan volunteered as a student assistant at the Global English Education Assembly, where he supported international educators through material distribution, guest reception, and logistical coordination. He also interned at Reference News, Xinhua News Agency, where he was responsible for selecting timely news topics, translating English news reports, and drafting policy analysis summaries.
As part of their summer curriculum, the entire class visited Beijing Radio and Television Station (BRTV). They observed professional studio operations, including control room workflows and multi-camera live broadcasting systems, and gained hands-on experience in content integration and cross-platform distribution strategies at the multimedia convergence center. These exposures provided concrete insights into real-world program design and digital content management.
